Is it OK to drop in?

Unfortunately not.

Although planned school groups and teachers who have booked a pre-visit meeting or CPD session are extremely welcome, the farm is not open to the public, so please do not waste a journey hoping to visit, as this will not be possible.

Is it easy to park?

There is plenty of space for cars and minibuses to park onsite.  Coaches will need to drop off groups at the end of the farm drive, since the gateway is too narrow for large coaches to turn in.

If the coach can get in, it is welcome to stay!

What about the weather?

All visitors should bring wellington boots, or other suitable footwear and depending on the weather, warm, waterproof clothing.

What toilet and handwashing facilities are there?

We have a Separett ecotoilet - a very civilised type of eco-loo!

There is hot water for handwashing, although in the summer, with larger groups, we use cold running water.  We have liquid soap and paper towels.

What about Health and Safety?

Although tidy and well cared for, this is a working farm with livestock and the other hazards associated with working outside the classroom.  We have a Health and Safety policy, adhere to the industry code of practice and have a Code of Conduct.  When you book a school visit, you will be asked to check through these documents before signing the booking form.

When planning your school visit, you are very strongly advised to take advantage of the free pre-visit sessions offered for teachers.

You will be able to prepare your risk assessment much more effectively with prior knowledge of the site.

We have public liability insurance (certificate available on request) and the farm is on the current Somerset County Council list EV4 list of providers.  Stokehill is a member of Care Farming UK.
